Prop firm rules, side by side

The drawdown, daily loss, consistency and payout terms of 45 plans across 11 futures prop firms, each one read from the firm’s own documentation and dated. No rankings, no “easiest to pass” — just what the rules actually say, in the same words for every firm, so you can compare them.

The rule most comparisons get wrong

Nearly every prop firm comparison you will find describes a plan’s drawdown in one word: static or trailing. But “trailing” covers three genuinely different rules, and the difference between them decides whether an account survives a normal losing day.

Stops at your start

The floor climbs with your balance until it reaches exactly what you started with, then freezes. Every dollar after that is genuinely yours to risk.

Stops just above it

The same rule, frozen $100 higher. It sounds identical and is the most common convention — but it is a different number, and the account fails at that number.

Never stops

The floor follows your high-water mark for the life of the account. Give back profit you never withdrew and you can breach a balance that is still up on the day.

The other half of the question is when the floor moves. An end-of-day floor recalculates once, after the close. An intraday floor follows your highest balance while you are still in the trade — including profit you have not closed — so a winner that gives its gains back can raise your floor and then breach it without a single losing trade being closed. Both columns are stated for every plan below.

Every plan at a glance

All figures are for $50,000 accounts, the size most firms publish in full. Sizes scale differently at each firm, so confirm your own before trading it.

Common questions about prop firm rules

What is a trailing drawdown on a prop firm account?

A trailing drawdown is a minimum balance that rises as your account grows. Instead of a fixed floor, the line follows your account up — so profit you make raises the level at which the account fails. The two things that decide how dangerous it is are WHEN it moves (as you trade, or once at the end of the day) and WHERE it stops moving, if it ever does.

Does a trailing drawdown ever stop trailing?

It depends entirely on the plan, and this is the single biggest difference between two plans that both advertise "trailing drawdown". Some freeze the floor once it reaches your starting balance. Some freeze it at your starting balance plus $100. And some never freeze it at all — the floor keeps following your high-water mark for the life of the account. Of the 45 plans on this page, 11 have a trailing floor with no documented stopping point.

What is the difference between intraday and end-of-day trailing?

An intraday trailing drawdown follows your highest balance while you are in the trade, including profit you have not closed yet — so an open winner that gives its gains back can move your floor up and then breach it, even though you never closed a losing trade. An end-of-day trailing drawdown only recalculates once the session closes, so unrealized profit during the day does not move the line.

What is a consistency rule?

A consistency rule caps how much of your total profit may come from your single best day — commonly 30% to 50%. It does not fail the account. What it does is raise the total profit you need before the rest of it counts, so one outsized day means you must trade more days to balance it out. Plans differ on whether the rule applies during the evaluation, after funding, or both.

Is a daily loss limit the same as failing the account?

Not always, and the difference matters. On some plans hitting the daily loss limit is a hard breach and the account ends immediately. On others it is a soft stop: trading is disabled for the rest of the day and the account resumes the next session. Some firms sell it as an optional add-on. This page marks which is which wherever the firm states it, and says so plainly when a firm does not.

Where do these numbers come from?

Every row was read from the firm's own help centre, rules page or terms, and each plan below links to the page it came from with the date it was checked. Prop firm rules change often — firms revise drawdown terms, payout ladders and consistency percentages with little notice — so treat the date as part of the number and confirm anything decision-critical against the firm directly.

MAV tracks these rules against your actual account

This table is the research behind a feature. Add your evaluation or funded account to MAV and it prefills the rules for your firm and plan — including the lock point — then tracks your balance against them as you log trades, so you can see how much room you actually have left rather than working it out on a notepad. You can edit any rule that differs from your own terms.

Not affiliated. MAV by Market Mavericks is an independent journaling and analytics tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with any firm named on this page. Company and product names are the property of their respective owners and are used here only to identify whose published rules are being described.

Check the date. Every plan above links to the page it was read from, with the date it was checked — currently August 21, 2026 to August 22, 2026. Prop firm rules change frequently and often without notice, and firms may apply different terms to accounts opened before a change. Treat the date as part of the number and confirm anything decision-critical with the firm directly before you rely on it.

Not advice. Nothing on this page is financial, investment or trading advice, a recommendation of any firm or plan, or a statement about whether you would pass an evaluation or receive a payout. MAV does not rank these firms. Trading futures carries substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for every investor.
