Why did my prop firm evaluation fail?
Drop in your trade export and pick your firm’s plan. See the exact trade where the drawdown or daily loss rule broke, what your process looked like on the way there, and the rules that would have kept the account open. Your file never leaves your browser.
Step 1
Your firm’s rules
Step 2
Your trades
Your file never leaves your browser. It is read and analysed on this device — nothing is uploaded, stored or sent to MAV.
Works with Tradovate (Reports → Performance), NinjaTrader, Rithmic R|Trader, TopstepX, Quantower and most one-row-per-trade CSVs.
What the autopsy checks
- The line — Your closed-trade balance, trade by trade, against your plan’s drawdown floor and daily loss line — and the exact trade where one was crossed, or “no rule broken in this file”.
- The consistency rule — Where your plan has one: your best day as a share of the profit, and the total that day needed beside it.
- The process — Re-entries within minutes of a loss, bigger size straight after a loss, trades after your own usual stop time, and trades past a firm line.
- Your rules — Two or three process rules computed from your file — a daily stop, a red-trade cap, a stop time — each replayed on the same trades.
The rules come from MAV’s prop firm rulebook — 71 firms, every plan read from the firm’s own documentation, with a source link and the date it was checked. MAV is not affiliated with any firm and does not rank them.
Most evaluations end on a process, not a trade
The trade that crosses the line is rarely the cause. Look a little earlier in the file and there is usually a shape: a loss, then a quicker entry than usual, then a bigger size to win it back, then a trade long after the time you normally stop. None of it is a character flaw — it is what a session without written limits does under pressure.
That is why the autopsy ends on rules rather than a score. A daily stop set inside the firm’s own limit, a cap on red trades, a stop time you already keep on good days: each one is replayed on your file, so you can see what it would have changed before you trust it.

Eval Autopsy — frequently asked
Why did I fail my prop firm evaluation?
Almost always one of three lines: the maximum drawdown floor (which on a trailing plan rises with your profits), the daily loss limit, or — at payout or pass time — a consistency rule. The Eval Autopsy replays your own trade export against your plan’s published rules and shows which line was crossed, on which trade, on which day.
How can a trailing drawdown fail an account that is still in profit?
A trailing floor follows your highest balance up. Make $1,500 on a 50K account with a $2,000 trailing drawdown and the floor is no longer $48,000 — it is $49,500. Give back $1,600 and the account ends while it is still above where it started. Whether the floor follows end-of-day balances or every intraday high, and where (or whether) it stops climbing, differs by firm and plan — the autopsy uses your plan’s stated rule.
Is my trade file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and analysed in your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, stored or sent to MAV — you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works. The only thing that can ever leave the page is the email address you choose to type into the optional rule-change box.
Which trade exports does it read?
Tradovate’s Performance export, NinjaTrader’s Trade Performance (trades or executions), Rithmic R|Trader order history, TopstepX trades, Quantower trades, and most CSVs with one row per trade (symbol, direction, entry and exit time, and P&L or prices). These are the same readers MAV’s journal import uses.
Can I check an Apex evaluation’s drawdown with it?
Yes — Apex’s end-of-day and intraday trailing plans are in MAV’s rulebook, as are TopStep, Lucid, Tradeify, MyFundedFutures and the rest of the firms MAV has researched. One honest limit for intraday trailing plans: that floor follows your open-trade high, and a trade export only carries closed trades, so the firm’s real floor may have been higher than the one drawn.
How exact is the autopsy?
It is as exact as the file. P&L may be before fees on some exports, the day is split on the CME session (5pm CT), and the rules are MAV’s reading of each firm’s published terms with the date they were checked. Your firm’s own dashboard is the final word on your account.
Is the Eval Autopsy free?
Yes — free, no login and no email required. The rule-change email is optional and only sends your address and the firm’s name.
Educational analysis of the file you provide — not financial advice, not a prediction, and not a promise that any rule passes an evaluation. MAV is a trading journal; it is not a broker, an adviser or a prop firm, and is not affiliated with the firms named. Rules are MAV’s reading of each firm’s published terms on the date shown; firms change terms, and your firm’s own dashboard is the final word. Trading futures involves substantial risk of loss.
